A Utah mother reportedly locked her 12-year-old son in a feces-filled bathroom for more than a year, starving the boy to an emaciated state in the process.
“The child looked like he was the victim of a concentration camp from World War II,” an official said, according to Fox News.
Washington County Sheriff’s Office Lt. David Crouse said Tuesday that the boy couldn’t stand on his own power and weighed around 30 pounds.
The father discovered his malnourished son in his home in Tocqueville, Utah Sunday. (RELATED: Female Day Care Worker Pleads Guilty To Raping Children)
The siblings of the boy told law enforcement that their brother was locked inside of the poorly kept bathroom for at least one, potentially even two years.
The children also said that they did not communicate with their brother through the door in roughly six months.
Authorities believe the lavatory was most likely dark throughout the boy’s time in the room since they found the light switch turned off and enclosed in duct tape.
The mother, Brandy Jaynes, is being charged with second-degree felony child abuse, reports Fox News. (RELATED: Mother Allegedly Suffocates 1-Year-Old Son, Shoots Self After Facebook Diatribe)
In a somewhat similar instance, an 86-year-old U.S. Marine veteran was finally let out of captivity in July after being kidnapped and held hostage in a motel room for at least four years. The elderly man told authorities that he believed he was in the room for only four days.
