The Saturday Night Live (SNL) writer who made fun of Barron Trump has now reportedly been suspended from the program.

Katie Rich, a writer for SNL since 2013, tweeted out Friday afternoon that: “Barron will be this country’s first homeschool [sic] shooter.” Almost immediately, Rich began getting a slew of angry tweets in response to her comment. She quickly deleted her Twitter account to avoid any further public scrutiny. Over 80,000 people have signed a petition calling for NBC to fire Rich.

The Daily Caller News Foundation independently confirmed that Rich was suspended immediately after her tweet, and the suspension is indefinite.

Rich reactivated her Twitter account Monday, to tweet out an apology to those that may have been offended by her original comments. “I sincerely apologize for the insensitive tweet. I deeply regret my actions & offensive words. It was inexcusable & I’m so sorry,” Rich tweeted at 12:08 p.m. Monday.

SNL has repeatedly made fun of Barron’s father, President Donald Trump, throughout the course of the election cycle.

Former first child, Chelsea Clinton, spoke out in defense of Barron, posting on Facebook Monday that: “Barron Trump deserves the chance every child does-to be a kid…Standing up for every kid also means opposing POTUS policies that hurt kids.”
