Protesters of Rep. Jason Chaffetz sent the Republican an “invoice” for protesting hours after he claimed they were paid protesters, according to a Tuesday report from The Hill.

The invoice refers to the town hall event Chaffetz held at Brighton High School Feb. 9, in which several protesters demanded that the chairman of the House Oversight Committee formally investigate President Donald Trump’s tax returns.

“Do your job!” the protesters chanted.

“You’re really not going to like this part: The President, under the law, is exempt from the conflict of interest laws,” Chaffetz rebutted.

The invoice charged Chaffetz $500.00, with a due date of March 1, 2017. Four hundred dollars of the fees are derived from “paid protest hours,” which are billed at $100.00 an hour. The invoice also included  two fees of $50.00. One was labeled, “Fee for being callously dismissed by representative,” and the other, “fee for being labeled out-of-state radical.”

“Thank you for letting us know this was a paid event!” the invoice wrote to Chaffetz.

The  Republican blasted the protesters for being paid, and even asserted that members of the group were from outside his district.

Chaffetz won re-election in 2018 by a 47 percent margin in a deeply Republican district.
