NATIONAL HARBOR, Md. — British politician Nigel Farage, also known as “Mr. Brexit,” declared his excitement for the upcoming Trump administration, which he believes exemplifies the global rejection of “supranational governments.”

Greeted by a standing ovation at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) 2017 Friday, Farage, easily the most ardent and outspoken supporter of Brexit, expressed his excitement that Great Britain is finally moving towards becoming its own sovereign body.

“I always believed we should be our own country,” Farage said. On the morning of June 24, 2016, “it was clear, the nightmare had come to an end.”

Farage believes he saw the same kind of “Brexit mania,” when he traveled to the U.S. during the presidential election.” Farage, an early President Donald Trump supporter, saw parallels between Trump’s campaign following those pushing for Brexit. Trump’s campaign platform championed many of the features of Brexit, including: a rejection of “globalism,” unfair trade agreements, and a strong opposition to “supranational governments.”

“I’m proud to be part of the campaign, I really am,” Farage said. He even noted feeling “more American,” since Trump defeated former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Trump, however, wasn’t the only American president Farage mentioned. “I will always be grateful for Obama,” Farage told the audience. “I’m glad President Obama came and told the British people that if we voted for our independence, we would be pushed to the back of the line.”

He ended his speech saying how excited he is “Trump is restoring faith in the democratic process.” In Farage’s opinion, “2016 was the year the nation-state made a comeback against the globalists.”
