I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Starbucks’ plan to hire 10,000 refugees doesn’t go far enough. There are 25,000 Starbucks stores, so there should be at least one refugee per store. That way, everybody can check his, her, or xer privilege and get revenge on Donald Trump by walking into any Starbucks and purchasing some overpriced, underwhelming coffee. But nooooooo, nobody ever listens to me.
Too bad, because now Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz is paying the price for this half-measure. Giovanny Moreano, CNBC:
The backlash from some consumers about Starbucks’ decision to eventually hire 10,000 refugees worldwide could negatively impact sales in the near term, according to analysts at Credit Suisse, who reiterated a hold rating on the coffee seller.
“Our work shows a sudden drop in brand sentiment following announcement of the refugee hiring initiative on Jan. 29th, to flattish from a run-rate of ~+80 (on an index of -100 to +100). Net sentiment has since recovered, but has seen significant volatility in recent weeks,” equity analyst Jason West wrote in a research note.
I don’t know what any of that means, but I do know that Americans are racists, so I assume this is just further proof.
It’s such a confusing time to be a Democrat. You know in your heart that all your ideas and causes are the right ones, and yet they keep failing. You vote for Hillary because she’s a woman and therefore it’s her turn, and she loses. You boycott Ivanka because her dad won, and her sales go through the roof. Target announces that anybody of any gender can use any bathroom they want, and people stay away in droves. Now this. All the progress we’ve made over the past eight years, wiped away just like that!
This is why capitalism is so evil. When people get to decide for themselves where their money goes, invariably they make the wrong choices. Shame on you, America.
