Florida parents started a petition to change the name of a middle school because the school’s acronym contains “PMS.”

The petition, “We oppose the name IPMS-Innovation Park Middle School,” urges the school to come up with a new name, reports CNN.

PMS stands for premenstrual syndrome, and the “I” before “PMS” in the name ends up sounding like “I PMS.”

“However, we feel the abbreviation of the proposed name – IPMS (Innovation Park Middle School) is a potential disgrace and embarrassment to the students, faculty and school board of Orange County,” the petition reads.

Almost three hundred people have signed the petition.

The school’s name is actually a compromise between two other alternatives, Innovation Middle and Moss Park Middle. The school plans to open in August and parents are desperate for a name change.

“I don’t think it’s going to be permanently damaging to kids long term, but I think at the end of the day why fuel the fire? I think there could just be a better choice,” Kelly Clavejo, a supporter, said.

Parents pointed out that the students would be wearing red shirts as part of their uniform. The IPMS acronym would only make the teasing worse, parents said.

“They don’t want to go to a school and wear a red shirt with the letters IPMS across the shirt for athletics, for academic competitions,” Christal Feldman, another parent, said. “They just don’t want to be ridiculed or be made fun of from other students from other schools.
A school board member told News6 that they would be looking into the matter and reviewing it.
