After being asked by a reporter Thursday morning, House Speaker Paul Ryan stood by his claim that the Republican caucus is “close” to getting enough votes to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, despite the balking of the Freedom Caucus.

“You say we’re close,” the reporter posed to the Wisconsin Republican. “Why should anyone believe you?”

“Well, because about 90 percent of the conference is there,” Ryan answered. “10 percent are not.”

“Ninety percent doesn’t get you there,” the reporter noted.

“That’s exactly right, but 95 percent does,” Ryan shot back. “That’s why I say we’re close, because we are.”
