New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio plans to travel to California in search of more campaign donations.
De Blasio has raised more than $400,000 so far in his latest bid for mayor, and just over 60 percent of total donations came from donors out of the state. The Democrat plans to travel to the progressive safe havens of Seattle, San Francisco, and Sacramento, Politico reports.
It’s not the first time de Blasio was forced to seek out-of-state funding this year. The mayor went on a fundraising tour that included stops in Chicago, Palm Beach, Los Angeles, and Philadelphia, according to campaign records.
Politico asserts the relatively poor campaign fundraising stems from several high-profile Democrats from the state of New York performing extensive fundraising of their own, like Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.
“There’s only one place for Bill de Blasio to go to advance New York City’s effort: out West!” Politico’s Azi Paybarah and Jimmy Vielkind wrote in the New York edition of Politico Pro.
De Blasio was recently cleared of any wrongdoing in an extensive investigation into questionable fundraising tactics, including accusations of demanding political donations for special access to the city’s executive branch.
