Not all criminals are criminal masterminds, and that is especially true for one Chinese thief.

A confused thief in Shenzhen, Guangdong, China recently ran straight into a nearby police station about 10 seconds after snatching a woman’s phone on the street, reports the South China Morning Post.

The man ran up to a woman waiting at an intersection, snatched her phone and then made the dash, the surveillance footage shows. The woman gave chase but tripped in the process. The thief would have probably gotten away, if he had mapped out his get away a little better. Instead, the man, who police say was unfamiliar with area, ran into a police station across the street.

“When he ran into the station, his expression was panicked and confusion was written all over his face,” a police officer told reporters.

“Normally, suspects are quite sly. But this suspect appeared to be unfamiliar with the area, so he ran directly into our police station. This is a very rare occurrence,” the officer added.

The thief was mercilessly ridiculed on Chinese social media.
