Shortly before 8 p.m. on Monday night, Colgate University officials released an emergency alert that there was an armed individual on campus. The gunman was later identified as a student with a glue gun working on an art project, according to the New York Upstate News.
The report came from the O’Connor Campus Center, otherwise known as The Coop, where a student reported a man walking the halls with what appeared to be a gun.
The liberal arts school, located 35 miles southeast of Syracuse, New York, tweeted of “an armed person at the Coop,” warning that students should “Find a safe space and remain indoors. If you are off-campus, stay away.”
The university remained on lockdown for several hours while police and K-9 units stormed the campus and investigated the incident.
Shortly before 1 a.m., the university released the campus from lockdown, saying in a statement, “After thorough investigation, and with the assistance of the person in question, law enforcement identified the individual as a student who was using a glue gun for an art project.”
The incident happened on the same day as a University of Texas at Austin student carried out a knife attack on four students, leaving one dead and three wounded, according to the Washington Post.
