Democratic candidate in the Georgia runoff election Jon Ossoff statistically tied Republican challenger Karen Handel in an internal Democratic poll released late Monday.

Ossoff led in the poll, earning 48 percent to Handel’s 47 percent, but the numbers were well within the 4 percentage point margin of error. A stunningly low 5 percent remain undecided in the race, indicating that a majority of voters have already made up their minds about who they plan to support in the June 20 vote.

“Four months ago, nobody expected us to even break 40 percent,” Ossoff campaign manager Keenan Pontoni told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

“Now, after our historic first-place finish on April 18th and this encouraging poll, we’re seeing the results of our community’s massive outreach efforts, and with our plans to ramp up those efforts, even more, our campaign is well-positioned to win on June 20th.”

Twenty-five percent of the respondents in the poll voted in the special election and in 2016, but didn’t vote in the 2014 midterms, indicating that voter turnout will be higher than usual for the year after a presidential race.

Ossoff won the “jungle primary” with 48 percent of the vote, and Handel came in a distant second. Ossoff earned a stunning $8.3 million in the first quarter of 2017, buoyed by an influx of national groups pouring money into the campaign.

The poll ran from April 23 through April 26, and included 590 likely runoff voters.
