Tuesday Group Co-Chairman Tom MacArthur could soon be forced out of his position in the powerful group of moderates, due to pushback over an amendment to the Obamacare repeal bill he brokered with the House Freedom Caucus.

Some speculate MacArthur’s compromise with conservatives will lead to resentment toward moderates if the legislation fails to pass. The House Freedom Caucus endorsed the legislation after the amendment was agreed upon in April, leaving more moderates than conservatives unsold on the bill.

“There is dissension in the ranks,” a Tuesday Group member told The Hill. “The Tuesday Group, to me, is a group of concerned, like-minded representatives who discuss issues, not negotiate positions on behalf of the group, but have meetings on Tuesday and have lunch and discuss the pending issues of the day.”

A number of Tuesday Group members cautioned against attempting to strike a deal with the HFC, but MacArthur maintained he’s negotiating as an individual member, not for the larger caucus.

The MacArthur Amendment would allow states to waive out of a number of the Affordable Care Act’s Title I regulations, leaving critics concerned people with pre-existing conditions will face significantly higher premiums.

Tuesday Group Co-Chairman Charlie Dent remains a no on the legislation while Co-Chair Elise Stefanik is undecided.

The matter is expected to be discussed at the group’s meeting Wednesday.
