Senator John Kennedy praised James Comey during a CNN interview but admitted that he is “as popular as cholera” on Capitol Hill.
Kennedy and Comey had a tense back-and-forth during the FBI director’s testimony yesterday, but Kennedy said Thursday morning that he appreciated Comey’s “candor.”
“He was forthcoming, he wasn’t apologetic,” the senator from Louisiana said, before admitting Comey isn’t very popular among Congress at the moment.
“Look, it’s no secret that he doesn’t get invited to many parties on Capitol Hill,” Kennedy explained. “He’s about as popular as cholera.”
“But I respect that about him. I mean, the impression I get of Comey is he’s gonna do his job and he doesn’t much care who gets mad at him.”
