The servicemembers were killed and wounded by small arms fire, CNN reports. The Trump administration recently deployed approximately 40 additional forces to Somalia to reinforce the Somalian National Army in the fight against the terrorist group.
President Donald Trump also declared Somalia an “area of active hostilities” in the early months of his presidency loosening White House oversight of U.S. military operations against al-Qaida in the region.
