FBI Director James Comey admitted that he is on Twitter after speculation that he is the owner of an anonymous account named “Reinhold Niebuhr.”

During a speech at the Anti-Defamation League about hate speech, Comey addressed the rumors, stating, “some of you may have read recently that I am on Twitter.”

“I am not a tweeter,” he said, indicating that he does not send tweets. “I am there to listen, to read, especially what’s being said about the FBI and its mission.”

Comey then expressed his personal views on the social media platform, explaining that sometimes it is “wonderful” and other times it is “depressing.”

“Sometimes it feels like I’m all of a sudden immediately in every dive bar in America, where I can hear everybody screaming at the television set,” he said.

“But it is free speech,” Comey qualified. “You don’t have to like it, you don’t have to agree with it, but we will protect it, because it is the bedrock of this great country.”

Back in March, some reporters claimed to have found James Comey’s Twitter account, the covert “Reinhold Niebuhr.” Comey did not confirm or deny Monday if that is his account.
