Rachel Maddow is convinced that the decision to send additional US troops to Afghanistan is just an elaborate ruse to distract the media from the Monday hearings about Michael Flynn and Russia.

A Monday report found that there is a plan from Trump’s most senior advisors to send thousands of more troops to Afghanistan to combat the Taliban. (RELATED: Pentagon Teeters On The Edge Of Full-Scale War In Afghanistan)

Maddow, however, argued that the White House “floated this news” in order to distract from Senate hearings about former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn’s ties to Russia.

“[This] has the practical effect of shoving the headlines on this hearing today down toward the bottom of the page,” she opined.

“That is as cynical as I have felt about anything else in politics in many years,” she continued. “It has been 108 days of this presidency so far. That’s it. And already we are at this level of cover up and scandal.”
