Intellectual and self-described libertarian socialist Noam Chomsky told BBC News the Republican Party is the most dangerous organization in “human history” because they won’t take action against global warming.
“Look, when I said it I said ‘look this is a very outrageous statement, but is it true?'” Chomsky, 88, told BBC News Tuesday.
“You’re rating them worse than Kim Jong Un of North Korea or ISIS …” the BBC interviewer responded, before Chomsky interrupted. “Is ISIS dedicated to trying to destroy the prospects for organized human existence?” he asked.

Chomsky didn’t mention ISIS is engaged in a civil war, and is trying to topple the government of at least two countries — Syria and Iraq. ISIS has also of course committed atrocities ranging from beheadings to religious persecution. Experts estimate ISIS militants have killed more than 33,000 people.
Nevertheless, Chomsky says Republicans are worse because ISIS isn’t consciously trying to “accelerate” global warming.
“What does it mean to say not only we’re not doing anything about climate change, but we’re trying to accelerate the race to the precipice,” he said.
“And you don’t entertain the possibility that they may be genuine in their belief that this is…” the BBC said, before Chomsky again interrupted: “Doesn’t matter whether they genuinely believe it or not.”
Chomsky, a professor emeritus at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, has a long history of making hay of American “imperialism.” He opposed the Vietnam war in the 1960s and 70s and regarded the collapse of the Soviet Union a victory for socialism, not capitalism.
