A Florida man in his 20s who disguised himself as an elderly person is now in custody after he allegedly stole $18,000 from multiple banks, according to an ABC report published Friday.
Abraham Maghen is accused of going to two separate banks on different occasions earlier in May while wearing a mask reminiscent of an elderly man. Like many similar crimes, Maghen allegedly handed a note to the bank teller demanding they hand over money, reports ABC News.
“My grandson is sick. I need $40,000 now,” the alleged thief said during one of the robberies, according to official legal complaint cited by ABC News. “Hurry up. He’s going to die.”

The FBI, which provided video surveillance before he was caught, said no one was injured by the incidents, even though authorities believe he was in possession of a handgun. (RELATED: Jimmy John’s Employee Doesn’t Flinch With Armed Robber’s Gun In His Face [VIDEO])
Maghen was arrested May 9, and his first legal proceeding is scheduled for May 24.
