CNN host Chris Cuomo stepped up to defend Sarah Huckabee Sanders against how she was portrayed on “Saturday Night Live” this week.

SNL had cast member Aidy Bryant playing Huckabee Sanders with a thick southern accent and at one point, slicing an apple with a knife at the press briefing podium. Bryant was also wearing the same dress that Sanders wore at last Wednesday’s briefing.

During SNL’s Weekend Update, Sanders’ clothing choice was described as an “atrocity.”

Surprisingly, Cuomo didn’t find the portrayal very funny and defended Sanders on Monday’s broadcast of CNN’s “New Day.”

“They are [enjoying themselves]. And maybe a little too much,” Cuomo suggested. “I will say this — you guys were mean about Huckabee Sanders.”

“You were fatshaming her, you were talking about how she looks and what she wears. I thought it was really not funny,” Cuomo said.

“Were they?” his co-host Alyson Camerota asked. “I thought they were making fun of her clothes.”

“They were making fun of her,” Cuomo replied. “They had her eating. I thought it was in poor taste. I really did, but that’s me.”
