The president of the Philippines called out Chelsea Clinton Wednesday after she criticized him for a crude rape joke.

The young Clinton declared on Twitter Friday that President Rodrigo Duterte is a “murderous thug with no regard for human rights” after the president joked last week he would permit his troops to rape up to three women in the southern Philippines, a section of the country currently under martial law.

Clinton tweeted that Duterte is “not funny,” adding that “rape is never a joke.”

Duterte responded to her criticisms in his usual firebrand manner. “Be careful because you live in a glass house,” he said, according to Filipino television network ABS-CBN “When President Clinton was f*cking Lewinsky, what was your statement or reaction?” Duterte was referencing former President Bill Clinton’s affair with Monica Lewinsky.

Duterte also claimed that American soldiers have committed rape overseas, including in the Philippines.

“It is a crime actually committed by soldiers, mostly Americans in Okinawa,” the president said, “But, we never heard of a Filipino. But I am just warning them that anything they do, I have to answer for it. I take full responsibility for your foolishness.”

Duterte said his comments were intended as sarcasm, although Duterte has made rape jokes in the past. He caused outrage last year when he recalled a 1989 prison riot in which an Australian missionary was raped and murdered, stating publicly she was so “beautiful” that he should have been first in line.

The Philippine president has repeatedly come under fire for his direct, occasionally foul-mouthed comments, as well as his shoot-to-kill drug war that has ended thousands of lives.
