Vox writer David Roberts posted a tweet thread Tuesday afternoon advertising a Twitter page that he created for female journalists who write on climate change and environmental issues.
Roberts, who writes on energy and climate change for Vox, created the page to provide a platform for women to post their opinions on global energy issues. “As in most fields of endeavor, mechanisms of recognition–freelance jobs, TV appearances, awards–are controlled & dominated by men,” Roberts tweeted.
Former presidential candidate Mitt Romney tried a similar tactic in 2012 during his search for female cabinet members when he referenced a “binder full of women” during a televised debate. The phrase went viral on social media, and #bindersfullofwomen became a trending topic on Twitter.
Thus far, Roberts’ Twitter page has 101 members. He named the page “Green Journo Ladiez,” but has requested that people tweet him with better names.
10. PS, I realize “green journo ladiez” is a stupid name, but apparently Twitter won’t allow anything longer. Better (short) ideas welcome.

His criteria for who can join the Twitter page are broad: they must be female, speak English, be a journalist, and cover climate change or clean energy issues. He tweeted that because women have to work twice as hard to be recognized, men in power cannot find women for environment jobs or panels.
8. Well, dudes, here they are. Hire them. Book them. Cite them. Invite them. Not because they are female, but because they *do good work*.

One Green Journo member wrote on the Twitter page, “Some days, all you need is a good paneer tikka masala,” while another female greenie tweeted, “I just poured a shot of maple syrup. I am so homesick right now.”
