Footage has emerged showing armed police shooting and killing the three London attackers as they run, knives raised, toward bystanders and officials.
The video depicts the officers arriving to the scene at Borough Market while citizens throw chairs and other debris at the attackers, The Independent reports.
The terrorists are seen running toward the officers when the officers open fire.
The video does not contain sound, but Mark Rowley, Assistant Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Service, stated that the three officers fired an unprecedented number of shots — around 50 — because it was believed the attackers were wearing suicide vests.
The vests turned out to be fake, but the terrorists were still able to kill eight people in their rampage that only lasted 15 minutes.
“I am humbled by the bravery of an officer who will rush towards a potential suicide bomber thinking only of protecting others,” Rowley said while speaking highly of the responding officers.
Many civilians have been called heroes following the attack, with multiple accounts of the public fending off the attackers while protecting fellow citizens.
