President Donald Trump vowed to send in federal help to crack down on Chicago violence in an early morning tweet Friday.

“Crime and killings in Chicago have reached such epidemic proportions that I am sending in Federal help,” Trump tweeted.

Chicago has been struggling with a violent 2017, though the numbers are a little lower than last year’s. According to the Chicago Tribune crime tracker, 1,714 people have been shot so far this year, compared to 1,790 people shot by this time in 2016.

Trump has focused on Chicago’s violent crime in the past, addressing the problem of inner cities and crime in a joint session with Congress in February.

“We’ve financed and built one global project after another, but ignored the fates of our children in the inner cities of Chicago, Baltimore, Detroit — and so many other places throughout our land,” Trump told Congress.
