An Australian Imam said Tuesday that Islam radicalized the Australian doctor known as “Dr. Jihad” who was seen in the latest Islamic State video.

Imam Mohammad Tawhidi claimed that Islam was to blame for the radicalization of Tareq Kamleh, an Australian doctor who fled to Syria in 2015 and was seen for the first time since in an ISIS propaganda video released Tuesday.

Kamleh urged Muslims in the video to go to Syria and join ISIS’s caliphate, calling for bloodshed against nonbelievers.

“I can’t blame him, it’s my religion,” Tawhidi said. “I can’t blame it on education, because he’s a doctor, he’s had the best education. So I have to blame it on the religion.”

Kamleh, who has assumed the name Abu Yousef al-Australi, said in the video that Muslims who do not come to Syria to fight for the caliphate, “have no honor, you have no self-respect. You have no love for fellow Muslims.” He urged Muslims who could not travel to enact jihad wherever they lived.

Kamleh also addressed President Donald Trump, saying that ISIS is happy U.S. troops will be near to Syria, and that they are “really eagerly awaiting your attempt to enter our cities. We love death more than you love life.”

Tawhidi has been criticized by Muslim leaders for his liberal approach to Islam and his credentials have been questioned, saying he never earned the necessary degrees and training.
