Evangelical leaders led a prayer circle in the Oval Office Monday in which they laid hands on President Donald Trump to invoke God’s blessing.

Pastor Rodney Howard-Browne of Revival Ministries International and his wife led the prayers over Trump and Vice President Mike Pence, along with other conservative and evangelical leaders. Michelle Bachmann, a former Minnesota congresswoman, attended the prayer alongside members of the Office of Public Liaison.

While this prayer meeting has received an array of media attention, praying over presidents is nothing new. Evangelical leaders, including some who were present at the prayer with Trump, also prayed over former President Barack Obama during his terms in office.

“We similarly prayed for President Obama but it’s different with President Trump,” former Liberty University Senior Vice President Johnnie Moore told CNN. “When we are praying for President Trump, we are praying within the context of a real relationship, of true friendship.”

Evangelicals have shown ardent support for Trump in light of his promises to promote and defend religious liberty in the wake of government violations of religious freedoms in recent decades.

The outpouring of conservative and evangelical support for Trump continued Wednesday with a meeting between Trump and Christian minister Marlon Gordon “Pat” Robertson at the White House, and news curator Matt Drudge calling for a moment of silence for Trump in the midst of the controversy surrounding his son, Donald Trump Jr.
