A far-right Italian political party placed signs reading “Refugees NOT welcome” on a highway in Northern Italy, news source Secolo Trentino reported Thursday.

The party, CasaPound, placed 50 banners on the Brenner Motorway to protest refugees coming to the region of Trentino Alto Adige. CasaPound’s ideology centers on commitment to Italian nationalism and anti-immigration, and the party openly supports returning to a fascist government.

“The Italian policies on receiving immigrants were always out of control, Europe is starting to realize but not Italy,” said Andrea Bonazza, regional coordinator for CasaPound. “CasaPound has no intention of surrendering to this violent invasion.”

Bonazza reiterated her point on Facebook, claiming that the EU’s handling of migration was a “senseless disaster.”

Italy has experienced an array of complications with immigration in 2017, as the country has received approximately 82,000 refugees since 2016. One Italian official stated that Italy reached its “saturation point” with regard to the onslaught of migrants being brought to Sicily. In response, the EU urged more countries to help out with Italy’s immigrants.
