A fugitive from Louisiana was arrested early Sunday morning after he walked down a highway, stopped a Louisiana deputy driving by on duty and asked him for a ride.

Police had been searching for Jansen Simon for four years after he hit a man in the head with a hammer during a bar fight Aug. 3, 2013, according to the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Simon was walking down Highway 182 in Raceland, La. Sunday when he stopped a deputy and asked for a ride home. He said that he was with friends and they left him on the side of the road, according to the sheriff’s department. After the deputy verified his identity, he quickly arrested Simon.

Simon is currently being held in prison without bond.
