Although it comes as no surprise, Ryan Seacrest is returning to host “American Idol” when it returns to television this fall.

Seacrest made the official announcement with the help of his co-host Kelly Ripa on “Live With Kelly and Ryan” Thursday morning.

“I’ve got some big news to announce. Is it okay if I announce this big news? I’ve been waiting and waiting,” Ripa said. “I am happy to confirm, confirm. I can confirm with absolute confirmation, that Ryan Seacrest is returning of the host of ‘Idol.'”

Ripa then let her co-host elaborate on his return to the show that made him famous.

“First of all, I don’t know if you’ve ever been in a 15-year relationship, and for a reason you really don’t know you break up,” Seacrest said. “All of a sudden the show’s going we thought well and then all of a sudden we broke up, and I though gosh, it would be great to get back together at some point.”

The hit singing competition show ended a long TV run in April of 2016, but will be rebooted on ABC this fall. Seacrest was the longtime host who was everyone expected would be brought back for the reboot, but it wasn’t official until now.
