Angelina Jolie opened up about her very public divorce from Brad Pitt and looks stunning while doing so on the cover of Vanity Fair’s September issue published Wednesday.
“It’s just been the hardest time, and we’re just kind of coming up for air,” the 42-year-old actress shared when asked about life for her and her six children since her split with Pitt just under a year ago. (RELATED: Angelina Jolie Opens Up About ‘Difficult” Split From Brad Pitt)
“We’re all trying to do our best to heal our family,” she added. “Things got bad. I didn’t want to use that word. . . . Things became difficult.”
“We’re all just healing from the events that led to the filing . . . They’re not healing from divorce,” she added. “They’re healing from some . . . from life, from things in life.”
“We care for each other and care about our family, and we are both working towards the same goal,” she continued as she talked about her relationship now with her ex. “I was very worried about my mother, growing up–a lot. I do not want my children to be worried about me. I think it’s very important to cry in the shower and not in front of them. They need to know that everything’s going to be all right even when you’re not sure it is.”
Jolie and Pitt announced they were separating in September of last year after being together for more than 12 years.
The couple’s custody battle became very public for a few months after Jolie said she wanted full custody of their children. However, in January the two agreed to keep things private for the sake of the kids and seal the custody documents.
