An unidentified object caused the “Fire Ball” roller coaster to fall apart mid-ride, killing one and injuring seven Wednesday evening at the Ohio State Fair.

The roller coaster malfunctioned after crashing into an object that caused part of the roller coaster to detach. The deadly accident was recorded on a cellphone video by an eyewitness.

The Fire Ball is characterized as an aggressive thrill ride, according to Amusements of America’s website: “The Fire Ball swings riders 40′ above the midway while spinning them at 13 revolutions per minute!”

Ohio Gov. John Kasich responded to the accident, saying that he was terribly saddened regarding the “loss of life” at the state fair. He added that an investigation is currently ongoing in response to the incident.

All rides at the Ohio State Fair are currently closed so that the matter can be more closely examined.
