A poll released Wednesday showed that almost 50 percent of the British Conservative Party still think that gay sex is “unnatural.”

Forty-nine percent of the British Conservative Party think that gay sex is unnatural, and 47 percent of Brexit supporters concur, as opposed to the 23 percent of Labour voters and 19 percent of Liberal Democrats that think homosexual sex is unnatural, according to the YouGov poll commissioned for Pink News. The poll was conducted between July 23 and July 24 and surveyed 1,609 British adults.

“It has long been suggested that Brexit supporters would be likely to be anti-LGBT rights but now we know that there is a potential correlation with voting for Brexit and opposing gay rights,” said Pink News CEO Benjamin Cohen.

Forty-one percent of British respondents also still think that teachers shouldn’t be able to teach elementary school children about homosexual relationships, even though Section 28 prohibiting teachers from doing so was repealed in 2008, according to Business Insider.

“It is depressing that 50 years on from the Sexual Offences Act that so many people still think that gay sex is unnatural and that a third oppose gay couples having children,” Cohen said. “When it comes to gay inclusive relationship education, it is clear that the Conservative government will be going against many of its own supporters.”

He added, however, that it’s “gratifying though to know that for younger people, gay relationships are considered perfectly natural and they strongly support gay parents and teaching young people about gay relationships.”
