President Donald Trump our most pro-Catholic president in over a decade has kept his promises to the Catholic faithful by appointing a pro-life justice to the U.S. Supreme Court and by cutting abortion funding overseas.
All believing and practicing Roman Catholics welcome his nomination of Callista Gingrich to the Holy See as US ambassador to the Vatican. Mrs. Gingrich is a splendid choice who will bring not only great knowledge of American history and culture on her diplomatic mission abroad. But she also possesses a tremendous knowledge of the art of government. Her political experience as husband to the indefatigable public servant and former US House Speaker Newt Gingrich makes her one of the most supremely qualified US ambassadors to the Holy See.
Her mission is to represent the United States of America to the Holy See. President Trump’s recent affable and successful visit to Pope Francis opens the door to more amiable relations with the Vatican than those under the Obama administration which supported abortion, the destruction of the family and furthered the suppression of religious freedom in America.
The Speaker and Mrs. Gingrich fully understand the state of the world order we are living in, a world engaged in building a totalitarian paganism unknown to history. What the late great Czeslaw Milosz called a new “Diocletian Rome planet wide.”
Callista Gingrich is not only a believer, but is an exemplary Roman Catholic propagating and defending the faith to an unbelieving world which is something Vatican 2 charged the laity to undertake. Her faith led to the conversion and entry of Newt Gingrich into the Roman Catholic Church.
She is the author of children’s books and has produced several catholic films with her husband, “ Divine Mercy: The Canonization of John Paul II and, “Nine Days That Changed The World”, a film on John Paul and the fall of communism in the Soviet Union.
Standing up for faith in public square as the Gingrich’s have done is an act of courage these days. Newt Gingrich’s book, Rediscovering God in America proclaims the Christian faith as a foundation point of our American republic. Unlike Pope Benedict, Pope Francis is silent on necessity of Christianity to the founding of Europe.
Pope Francis has been vocal on issues like the environment and global warming, but these are issue all Catholics can debate and enlighten each other on. They are not Church teachings. It’s too bad that the pope in his encyclical did not address a major pollutant in the environment: estrogen from birth control pills flushed into our waterways which result in the deformed sexual function of living creatures.
The use of the pill has also wreaked havoc on our human population leading to the breakup of marriage and the family while encouraging every sexual perversion as Pope Paul VI warned in Humane Vitae. The failure of the Church to teach the evils of birth prevention has led to a drastic decline in the European population and a huge influx of Muslims who still believe in family and children.
The diplomatic mission of the Holy See is to safeguard the liberty and sovereignty of the Roman Catholic Church and promote its universal well-being so as to bring souls to the Father. Pius XII warned the Holy See not to follow the ideology of the world, which today is internationalism.
Internationalism to which President Trump is opposed diminishes the obligations of citizenship and civic responsibilities. It robs a nation-state like the United States of its identity as a free people for some vague undefined term like “new world order”. President Trump has proclaimed a new citizenship for our country. He is not a nationalist but a patriot.
It was the United States that spoke modern democracy into existence. Democracy comes into being from a country, from a people as it did in Greece. America and France. Our Constitution protects us as a people and must protect its citizens from illegal immigration. The United States seeks to be local and defensive and is not aggressive like internationalism.
Callista Gingrich has her work cut out for her in explaining America to the Holy See. The Vatican will no doubt be the beneficiary of intelligent and vivacious discussion. The United States is fortunate to have someone of her caliber as Ambassador. She will perform in that post with the dignity and grace Melania Trump has exhibited to the world in the Middle East and Europe.
