One person was killed and three were seriously injured in a nightclub shooting Sunday morning in the German city of Constance.
The gunman, identified as a 34-year-old Iraqi citizen, opened fire at around 4:30 a.m. local time. Witnesses say the gunman used an automatic weapon. He later died in the hospital after a shootout with police.
“The disco was full. I guess there were several hundred people there,” an eyewitness told tabloid Bild.
Police have not established a motive behind the attack, but a spokesman said it could have been triggered by personal relationship issues.
“We’re not assuming that this is an act of terrorist violence,” police spokesman Fritz Bezikofer told news channel NTV, according to AFP.
The suspect had lived in Germany several years and was not an asylum seeker, according to Bezikofer.
The shooting comes just two days after a 26-year-old Palestinian migrant killed a 50-year-old man and injured six others during a stabbing spree at a supermarket in Hamburg. The man was ordered to be deported after his asylum application was rejected. He was known to authorities as an Islamist who was not considered to pose an immediate threat.
