A well-known evangelical pastor and spiritual mentor for President Donald Trump asserted Tuesday that God won’t mind if the president wipes North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un off the face of the earth.

Southern Baptist pastor Robert Jeffress, who has close ties to the president, believes Trump has the moral authority to destroy Kim Jong-un.

“When it comes to how we should deal with evil doers, the Bible, in the book of Romans, is very clear: God has endowed rulers full power to use whatever means necessary — including war — to stop evil,” Jeffress explained in a statement to CBN News. Jeffress personally tweeted out the story from CBN News.

“In the case of North Korea, God has given Trump authority to take out Kim Jong-un,” he added, stating, “I’m heartened to see that our president — contrary to what we’ve seen with past administrations who have taken, at best, a sheepish stance toward dictators and oppressors — will not tolerate any threat against the American people. When President Trump draws a red line, he will not erase it, move it, or back away from it. Thank God for a President who is serious about protecting our country.”

North Korea has developed missiles of varying ranges and nuclear warheads to fit them, ensuring that the regime has the ability to deliver devastation to its neighbors and the U.S. across the Pacific Ocean. Trump warned Tuesday, in the wake of U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley’s declaration that “enough is enough,” that North Korea’s threats will not be tolerated.

“North Korea best not make any more threats to the United States,” Trump explained to the White House press pool Tuesday. “They will be met with the fire and fury like the world has never seen. He has been very threatening beyond a normal state, and as I said, they will be met with the fire and fury and, frankly, power the likes of which this world has never seen before.”

The U.N., in response to U.S. pressure, has imposed new sanctions on North Korea. The U.S. is in talks with South Korea to improve their conventional missile forces, and the U.S. sent B-1B Lancers ripping past the Korean Peninsula Monday to remind Kim Jong Un that the U.S. is ready to “fight tonight,” according to the U.S. Pacific Air Forces.

In response to perceived U.S. provocations, North Korea said it is seriously considering launching a nuclear strike against U.S. strategic military assets in Guam.

Tensions are running especially high, but administration officials and observers appear determined to prevent the situation from escalating into a major military conflict, which would be, in the words of Secretary of Defense James Mattis, “tragic on an unbelievable scale.”
