Kaulana Apelu, a linebacker for the Oregon Ducks, was surprised at practice yesterday with a scholarship. Apelu is a junior with the Ducks and had to go through a few bumps in the road before getting to play for Oregon.

Apelu tore his ACL when he was a junior in high school after playing only one game, and in 2014 he tore his ACL again and only played one game. He decided to walk-on at Oregon in 2015, and started twice last season with 20 tackles and an interception. Apelu was one of only six players to get an interception last season, according to oregonlive.com.

During the end of practice yesterday, head coach Willie Taggart gathered the players at the end-zone and told them to watch what was about to come on the screen. Apelu’s mother appeared on the screen and told him he had earned a full scholarship and the team mobbed Apelu.

After watching the video Apelu said, “If you have a dream, never give up. Always chase it.”
