MTV confirmed Thursday that they have invited transgender military members to this year’s Video Music Awards in response to President Donald Trump’s new guidelines on the matter.

“MTV has invited transgender members of the U.S. Armed Forces to the 2017 Video Music Awards and we would be honored if they could attend,” MTV president Chris McCarthy told The Hollywood Reporter. “Any patriot who is putting their own life at risk to fight for our freedom and stand for equality is a hero at MTV, and to young people everywhere.” (RELATED: Caitlyn Jenner Puts Trump On Blast Over Military Trans Ban)

The move comes after Trump announced last month on Twitter that the “United States Government will not accept or allow Transgender individuals to serve in any capacity in the U.S. Military. Our military must be focused on decisive and overwhelming victory and cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption that transgender in the military would entail. Thank you.”

The annual music award show kicks-off Sunday on MTV.
