Tropical Storm Harvey’s death toll now stands at 20 after Montgomery County Sheriff’s Capt. Bryan Carlisle announced Wednesday that two men died in separate drowning incidents.
Carlisle said Wednesday that 33-year-old resident of Conroe, Tx., Joshua Feuerstein, died after driving his pickup truck past a barricade and into standing water, The Associated Press reports.
First-hand accounts from those who witnessed Feuerstein drive into the water report he attempted to back out of the water, but was unable to do so and his truck was pulled into deep water. A witness reportedly swam to help Feuerstein, but Carlisle said the young man had already died.
Another unidentified man tried to swim across a flooded roadway and drowned Monday. Witnesses report watching the man’s body go under water, and it never returned to the surface. The man was found Tuesday nearby where witnesses say he disappeared.
A Houston police officer also drowned Sunday in his patrol car on the way to work, police department officials announced Tuesday.
The officer, who served in the Houston Police Department for more than 30 years, drowned after his patrol car got trapped in rising waters Sunday on Interstate-45 and The Hardy Toll.
