Beginners in the vaping world will comes across terms they are not familiar with. I was once one of those beginners. I felt embarrassed as I was unable to respond to what was supposedly a routinely asked vaping question. Now, I’m setting out to help other new vapers. Here is a list of definitions one is sure to come across as he or she gets deeper in the vaping world.
To this day, most vaping terms are underlined in red as if incorrectly spelled. These words have meaning and are used on a daily basis by millions of people who vape.
Here are 43 terms that only a vaper would know:
All Day Vape – An e-liquid that a vaper personally enjoys the most and can vape it all day long or for longer periods of time, without getting tired of it and switching to another flavor.
Airflow – Slots within a tank that take in air. Looser airflow results in more vapor, while tighter airflow results in less vapor but more intense flavor.
Atomizer – The heating element inside of a tank that transforms e-liquid into vapor.
Box Mod – The device used that is shaped like a box, containing at least one battery inside.
Breathing – The process of leaving an e-liquid open to the air. It can mellow out some flavors.
Burner – Slang for a traditional cigarette.
Cigalike – Mini e-cigarettes that resemble cigarettes.
Clouds – The vapor that is exhaled through a mod.
Cloud Chaser – A mod/tank combo that produces immense vapor production.
Direct-Lung – Inhaling vapor directly into the lungs.
DIY (Do It Yourself) – A term used for people that make their own e-liquid
Doubler – A double-strength flavor, intended to be used in 50/50 VG/PG mixes.
Dripping – Putting e-liquid directly onto the heating element, using a “dripper.”
Dry Hit – A harsh tasting hit resulting from an insufficient supply of e-juice.
Dual Coil – Two coils built (instead of on)e on any rebuildable atomizer. This gives off more vapor.
E-liquid/E-juice – Flavored liquids vape mods use to produce vapor.
Flooding – This occurs when too much e-liquid is put into the atomizer. A gurgling sounds may be heard along with a negative influence on performance.
Hot Spots – Areas of excess heat on the atomizer coil. Hot spots are a known cause of dry hits.
Mod – A term commonly used to describe any e-cig or vapor device that does not look like a cigarette.
Mouth-to-Lung – Inhaling into your mouth first, then into your lungs.
Kick – Another way to describe a throat hit.
Knuckle Head – An adjustable drip tip that can used at any angle.
Nic Juice – Liquid that contains nicotine. (Not all e-liquids contain nicotine).
Noob – A new vaper.
Pen Style – One style of an electronic cigarette available. It resembles a writing pen.
Priming – The act of putting a few drops of liquid onto a coil and letting it sit for a few minutes so the e-juice can saturate the wick fully.
Pull – Also known as the draw or the hit. What the smoker does to inhale the vapor from the e-cig.
Rebuildables – Users are able to rebuild their own coils and wicks and have more control over their vaping experience. Types of rebuildables include RBA, RTA, RDA, and RDTA.
Squonking – The act of pressing the e-liquid bottle via the opening in the mod and then liquid is fed by pressure via a tube into your atomizer
Stacking – The act of stacking batteries to create more power than one battery alone can achieve.
Starter Kit – An all inclusive package that gives you everything needed to begin vaping. Also a term used for beginner packages.
Steeping – The act of letting newly mixed e-juice sit open in the air for a specific amount of time to let the ingredients settle. There are different methods to steeping.
Subbing – Sub-ohm style coils.
Sweet Spot – The balance of several variables needed to achieve the perfect vape. Variables may include voltage, wattage, resistance, and the makeup of the juice.
Tailpiping – Direct dripping without a drip tip attached.
Throat Hit – A draw that you can feel tingling in the back of your throat. Throat hits are usually associated with higher nicotine levels.
Topping Off – Adding a few drops of e-liquid into a tank or directly onto the coils.
Unicorn bottle – E-liquid bottles that hold 15 ml or 30ml with a tip that is easy to drip with. Great for carrying liquid when traveling.
Vapegasm – That first taste you get from your favorite e-liquid in a new atomizer.
Vapehole – A vaper that could care less about the people around them and acts obnoxious while vaping.
Vapor Production – Indicates how much vapor is produced when exhaled from a specific liquid/tank combo.
Vaper’s Tongue – This occurs when a person vapes too much of the same liquid and desensitizes his or her taste buds.
Wicking – An absorbent material (cotton) that draws e-liquid onto the heating element and moistens areas that are dry.
