The White House will announce whether or not President Trump will continue the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program on Tuesday.
White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said the president is still finalizing his decision and would not comment on any other details related to DACA.
On the campaign trial, Trump promised to “immediately terminate” the Obama-era program that grants amnesty to illegal immigrants who were brought to the United States as minors. However, if he chooses to renege on that promise, DACA faces a lawsuit from ten Republican attorney generals.
Texas state attorney general Ken Paxton previously wrote to Attorney General Jeff Sessions that the group of AGs would issue the legal challenge if Trump had not cancelled DACA by September 5, the day he is now going to announce his decision. Then-Homeland Security secretary John Kelly said at the first threat of a legal challenge that DACA might not survive if it were to go to court.
