Anthony Gonzalez, an Ohio native and former star of the Ohio State football team, has filed to run for Ohio’s 16th Congressional Seat in 2018 as a Republican, according to Cleveland.com.

Gonzalez played in the NFL from 2007 until 2012 as a member of the Indianapolis Colts and on the practice squad for the New England Patriots during his final year. He was selected by the Colts in the first round and 32nd overall in the 2007 NFL draft.

When he finished playing football, he went to Stanford University and earned his MBA. Gonzalez worked for a technology education company in San Francisco, but has moved back to Ohio to prepare as he takes on politics.

Jim Renacci, Republican U.S. Representative, has decided to run for governor instead of re-election, giving Gonzalez the chance to take the seat in Congress.

According to Cleveland.com Gonzalez has been meeting with the Republican National Committee in Washington, D.C., but he has not officially announced himself that he will be running.
