At the same that President Trump is spurning Republican leadership to work with House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, his re-election campaign is attacking Pelosi and Schumer for being obstructionists.

The Trump campaign released an ad Thursday that blamed Schumer and Pelosi for keeping Trump from doing his job, making for a sharp contrast with Trump’s current friendly relationship with the two Democrats.

“Career politicians and the media trying to stop him,” the script reads while flashing pictures of Democratic politicians including Schumer and Pelosi, “but President Trump is fighting for America.”

Trump has cozied up to Pelosi and Schumer in recent days, and signed onto their plan Wednesday to extend the debt ceiling by three months, just hours after Speaker of the House Paul Ryan called that exact proposal “disgraceful.”

Trump has also signaled that he is willing to go along with Democratic initiatives on amnesty for the 800,000 illegal immigrants previously covered under the Obama-era Deferred Action Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

Trump published a tweet Thursday morning telling DACA recipients that “you have nothing to worry about.”

Pelosi later thanked him for the tweet, which Trump reportedly sent at her request.
