When I was in college, there was a big controversy on campus over a company called SodaStream. I had never even heard of this Israeli company before, but apparently the location of their factory in the West Bank had raised the ire of the school’s Palestinian activists. After months of protests, the dining hall caved to the protestors’ demands and stopped buying appliances from SodaStream. (I think this decision may have since been reversed).

Although it is always sad to see wacky activists get their way, the upside of this situation was that I found out about SodaStream. They make appliances that turn water into sparkling water (or, well, soda). Today only, one of these appliances (which happens to be a #1 bestseller in its category) is on sale.

SodaStream Genesis Sparkling Water Maker, Black and Silver on sale for $59

This kit includes the sparkling water maker, the carbonator (which makes up to 9L of sparkling water), a reusable carbonating bottle, and a 60L mail-in rebate.

The best thing about SodaStream, however, is probably making Palestinian nutjobs mad. But if that’s the case, the soda you can make yourself is a close second.
