National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster confirmed Sunday that the Trump administration is looking into a new, tougher travel ban.
“The president also talked about a larger, tougher travel ban,” George Stephanopoulos said on ABC’s “This Week.” “Is that something you’re going to propose?”
McMaster didn’t give a straight “yes” or “no” in his response, but stated, “Well, if you can’t screen people to know who’s coming into your country then you shouldn’t allow people from that country to travel.”
“So what the travel ban is is a first step…in better screening, in better sharing of information to encourage governments to meet the requirements we have to better protect our own people,” he continued.
Stephanopoulos pressed the issue, asking again, “Will we see a new one?”
“Well, this is something that we’re looking at,” McMaster confirmed, “is how to protect the American people better–how to ensure we know who these people that are moving.”
