Hurricane Maria made landfall in Dominica Tuesday morning, bringing “mind boggling” destruction to the island, according to Dominica Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit.

Maria began its tour of devastation as a Category 5 storm, but dropped to a Category 4 as it crossed over Dominica. It has recovered, however, and now threatens the U.S. territory of Puerto Rico and the U.S. and British Virgin Islands, CNN reports.

“So far we have lost all what money can buy and replace … the winds have swept away the roofs of almost every person I have spoken to or otherwise made contact with,” Skerrit wrote on Facebook Tuesday morning. “Come tomorrow morning we will hit the road, as soon as the all clear is given, in search of the injured and those trapped in the rubble.”

“I am honestly not preoccupied with physical damage at this time, because it is devastating … indeed, mind boggling,” he added. “My focus now is in rescuing the trapped and securing medical assistance for the injured.”

Maria is the third hurricane to hit Dominica in the span of a few weeks. The nearby island of Guadeloupe has avoided the worst of the damage from recent storms and serves as a staging area for aid organizations across the islands. Guadeloupe’s resources are strained, though, so recovery assistance to Dominica may be stalled, The New York Times reports.

“We will need help, my friend, we will need help of all kinds,” Skerrit wrote.
