CNN anchor Poppy Harlow had an interesting defense for comedian Jimmy Kimmel talking about health care on his late night show, arguing “he’s an American citizen.”
The debate about whether or not it is proper for Kimmel to speak on health care was raised by contributor Matt K. Lewis, who suggested Kimmel should focus more on comedy than politics.
But according to Harlow, because Kimmel is “an American citizen,” it is not right to criticize him for using his celebrity to weigh in on a political debate without any real credentials.
“Matt Lewis says Kimmel shouldn’t focus on health care policy he should focus on being funny,” Harlow said. “This is an American citizen who, aside from his job and aside from being rich…he’s an American citizen who has a kid who has a serious condition that requires up to a million dollars of surgeries.”
