Daily Beast columnist Matt Lewis said the Graham-Cassidy repeal bill “flips the script” on Democrats and gives Republicans a chance to win the health care debate, during a Thursday interview on “CNN Newsroom.”

“Graham-Cassidy flips the script. It says, if the game is about spending more money we can’t beat Democrats. But if the game is about more liberty, more flexibility to the states then we can win that game. And that’s what it does,” Lewis said.

The columnist expressed doubt that the bill would pass, but said if it is signed into law it would give states more options regarding health care, and allow governors to see what works best in each market.

“I don’t think it’s going to pass to be honest with you. But if it did pass this would give states the flexibility to design something. They’re closer to their public, to their citizens. I would be fine if California had single payer. And New York. But maybe Mississippi wants to do something different,” Lewis said.
