We all know Justin Trudeau, right? Prime Minister of Canada, immigration policy hypocrite, total feminist?
Well he must’ve been having a weak moment or something because he opened up about his path to feminism at a Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation event this week.
And he didn’t say his journey to becoming a feminist was because he saw his mother struggle and it deeply affected him. He actually didn’t give any sort of cerebral articulation as to how he was led to feminism.
Nope. Justin Trudeau became a feminist because an actor told him to, and that actor was Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Trudeau told the audience:
I saw a video in 2014 of Joseph Gordon-Levitt, saying ‘Yeah, I’m a feminist’ … It wasn’t that, ‘Oh, I’m going to follow his lead.’ It was like, ‘Oh, OK, it’s OK for men to say that they are feminists in a public sense.’ Great, I’m going to finally do that.
Here’s the video in question:
For somebody who spends $650 million on women’s reproductive and career advancement programs, this is embarrassing. The guy is hailed as a modern Rosie the Riveter, and he was ashamed to say he was a feminist until an actor did it?
Really weak stuff coming out of Justin but I guess we couldn’t have expected much more because, well, Canada.
And he saw this video in 2014? 2014? The dude was already running for PM in 2014. It’s embarrassing that the face of 21st century masculine-feminism couldn’t even call himself a feminist until the year of Ebola, the Sony hack, and George Clooney’s wedding.
For the record, George Clooney is still married to that same person. That’s how recently Justin Trudeau came out as a feminist.
And for all those women out there who are saying this is so true…and so sexy, when did you need men to validate your equality? Isn’t that the entire purpose of feminism? To push past the alleged patriarchy/glass ceiling and seize power yourselves? Accepting any sort of assistance from men to advance the feminist agenda voids the entire message of the movement.
