Actress Lena Dunham compared President Donald Trump to Dylann Roof, the white supremacist and mass murderer responsible for the Charleston shootings in June 2015.
Dunham, an outspoken critic of the president, tweeted her disdain for Trump Monday, following the president’s denouncement of football players that kneeled during the national anthem.
“Not only is he [Trump] a racist but he’s a racist with untreated mental illness. So under diff circumstances, he’s Dylann Roof,” Dunham tweeted.

Roof murdered nine black church attendees during a Bible study in Charleston, S.C., and he has been sentenced to the death penalty. Prior to his sentencing, Roof asked to fire his Jewish and Indian lawyers, calling them his “political and biological enemies,” but an appeals court denied his request.
