Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke said Monday that hydraulic fracturing is proof of God’s love, according to the Washington Examiner.
Hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, is “proof that God’s got a good sense of humor and he loves us,” Zinke said, according to the Examiner. He was addressing the federal advisory panel to the departments of Interior and Energy and the National Petroleum Council when he made the remarks.
Zinke’s speech was largely about the direction of the Department of the Interior (DOI) and the changes within the department that still need to be made.
Nearly a third of the DOI’s employees are “not loyal to the flag,” Zinke said, according to the Associated Press.
“We do have good people” at the DOI, he added, “but the direction has to be clear and you’ve got to hold people accountable.”
Zinke will make “huge” changes to the DOI as he plots a course for the agency in line with President Donald Trump’s agenda, including a complete restructuring of the agency.
“I really can’t change the culture without changing the structure,” Zinke said, according to the AP.
