Justin Timberlake reportedly “is finalizing” plans to headline Super Bowl LII when Minneapolis hosts the championship game, according to US Weekly magazine.
A source told the outlet Wednesday, that the 36-year-old performer and the National Football League were in the final stages of making it official that Timberlake will take the stage during halftime at the Super Bowl being held February 4, 2018. And although some reports stated that Timberlake might perform with Jay Z, sources told the outlet, “as of right now, it will just be Justin–no surprise performers.”
At one point, Britney Spears reportedly was interested in performing at the game. Another report said NFL offers to Adele and Jay Z were turned down.
It will be the second time the “Sexy Back” singer has been on football’s biggest stage. The last time was 13 years ago, when he performed alongside Janet Jackson in 2004 where he ripped off part of her outfit at the end of “Rock Your Body,” exposing her nipple in what Jackson later termed a “wardrobe malfunction.”
The incident lead to changes of live coverage of sporting events, with the Federal Communications Commission implementing a five-second delay to live broadcasts.
